Streetpainting.tv was pleased to attend Festival Bella Via 08 this past weekend in Monterrey, Mexico. This is the first of our posts...so check back for more to come for photos and video interviews with Festival Director Rosy Loyola and competition and exhibition street painters.
Street painters Cuong Nguyen (US), Anthony Cappetto (US), and Marina Escamilla (MEX) worked to create a reproduction of famous Mexican artist Jesus Helguera's painting 'Caballero Aguila' (1956) as one of five exhibition pieces for the festival. The original painting is in a private collection, but through street painting, this beautiful image was shared with thousands of festival viewers.
This is the finished street painting, approximately 12' x 15', which took the team 3 days to complete.
First the design was sketched onto the brick pavers, then the chalk was applied. Cuong Nguyen is shown above working on the face of Caballero Aguila.
Anthony Cappetto finishes his detailed work on the shield, which was drawn as feathers.
