Street painting and text by Rod Tryon.
"My niece and nephew attend Robert Hunter Elementary school in Flemington, NJ. The school was having a book drive to raise funds and buy books for the school. The school decided to do a safari theme for the book drive activities and promotion.
My niece and nephew are both wonderful artists and draw with sidewalk chalk on their driveway at home all the time (I like to think that I have a little to do with that). They thought that a safari related street painting outside the school would be a fun addition to the book drive. They asked me if I would do a street painting and I decided to create an image of an elephant in a water hole. I spent the day before the event creating a small 3D street painting. It took about 6 hours to complete the 6 foot by 6 foot drawing. The teachers brought their students by throughout the day to see the drawing as it progressed. We had a little setback when the rains came for a short time, but we had a tent to protect it, so the image was fine.
The event was a lot of fun and I hope that I was able to inspire a few children to get excited about being involved in the arts. Thanks to Robert Hunter Elementary school for allowing me to share street painting with their students."
