'The Time for the Lilacs' street painting by Lorelle Miller at 'Avenida de Colores' in Sarasota, FL - May 2 & 3, 2009. "The piece I choose was Sophia Anderson’s piece called “The Time of the Lilacs”. The festival’s theme was based on Flora who is the goddess of flowers in Roman mythology.
The image of the young girl with an armful of lilacs was so refreshing to me. The colors, her beautiful face, the landscape all appealed to me greatly. I worked on the piece for about 24 hours. The response was very good. People loved the expression in her eyes, her wistfulness.
A great experience and a joy to share what I do. I love the people I got to meet, the wonderful streetpainters who work so hard at what they love. Denise Kowal, the chair of the event, was incredible and tireless! Passionate about the arts and wanting to share that with her community. I even got to meet the “Sword Swallower “ Johnny Fox, one of their entertainers, who completely intriqued me with his show. It was an amazing trip for me!"
