Michael Macaulay has been busy, street painting again on Sunday at the Providence Street Painting Festival in Rhode Island. His 8' x 8' piece called "Golden Catch' took about 6 & 1/2 hours to complete and was the only 3D street painting created during the festival.
Michael told us "I had an opportunity to talk to a lot of people about the 3D aspect of the piece. It was cool to see peoples' reactions when they took a picture from the 'x' that I marked on the ground and then looked through their camera. It created a buzz for sure. No one else was doing the 3D thing. A number of other artists seemed impressed by the anamorphic effect. I had a number of people ask about my work. It was a great day overall."
Side view of 'Golden Catch' by Michael Macaulay. You can see that the eagle's wings look much longer from this view and the water hole looks quite small, but when you look at the photo below, the eagle looks in proportion and the water hole looks much larger. This is due to the drawing technique called anamorphic perspective.
