The summer has wound down and street painter Michael Macaulay has been busy doing street paintings wherever he can. A few times during the summer his town of East Greenwich, RI hosted a “Main Street Stroll” event. The Main Street Stroll is an event that takes place on the first Thursday of each month between May and September. Between 5pm and 8pm, over 50 artists set up shop and display everything from paintings to hand-made jewelry. Live music can be heard up and down Main Street in East Greenwich as hundreds of people stroll through town looking for treasures and trying food and treats from some of the local restaurants. While displaying his paintings and drawings, Michael also put on a show for passersby, creating street paintings for all to enjoy. Here is a recap of the work Michael created on the sidewalks of East Greenwich this summer.
Michael started the summer season with The ‘Snake Chasing His Tail’ street painting that was completed within a 4' x 4' space and took a little over an hour to complete. This laid the groundwork for what people would expect to see all summer long.
The 4’ x 4’ street painting below was done during July’s Main Street Stroll. The theme for the whole event that month was “Bring Your Dog to Main Street”. So, Michael did a nice, simple street painting of a cocker spaniel in honor of the dogs of the day.
This 5’ x 5’ street painting (below) titled “The Stand Off” took about two hours to complete for the September Main Street Stroll. It was a hit with everyone – especially when they peered into a camera to take a picture of the 3D image. Kids loved this one!
All summer long, people looked forward to seeing what Michael would come up with next. Many stopped by in the hopes that Michael would be hard at work on the sidewalk. They were not disappointed. Michael cannot wait for next summer!
