Sarasota Chalk Festival: October 30 & 31, 2010

Streetpainting.tv will be contributing to the media coverage at the Sarasota Chalk Festival over Halloween weekend, Oct 30 & 31, 2010 in Sarasota, Florida!    

The art form of street painting will be celebrated by over 250 artists who will turn South Pineapple Avenue in downtown Sarasota into a gallery of amazing art that makes merry and scary the theme, “Halloween.”

Artists from all all corners of Florida and the United States and from all over the world are traveling to Sarasota to street paint as you the spectator becomes a part of the performance art process!

The festival is fun for all and FREE TO ALL! In addition, “Sarasota’s Largest Pumpkin Carving Contest” will take place on Saturday, October 30. “Hallowscreen” will be showing movies indoors and out October 29 – 31. Sarasota’s first real “Couture Runway Fashion Show” will be Saturday evening, October 30th. The music stage will have various bands playing such as Sherri and the Visions.

Lorelle Miller's Newest Street Paintings: Bolle di Sapone & Victorian Fantasy

Street painter Lorelle Miller shared the following two street painting images that she did over the last two weekends with us at Blog Now on streetpainting.tv...

 
"The painting called Bolle di Sapone (8’ x 12’ street painting) after Luigi Bechi was created in Santa Clarita. This venue is my home territory where my art students can stop by and see me street painting. Some of them have never seen anything like this so it is fun to see their reaction to the size, the technique as well as my general appearance after rolling around on the asphalt for two days."

 

 
"The second piece called Victorian Fantasy ( 8’ x 12’ street painting) after Arthur Drummond was created at the Via Arte festival in Bakersfield which is always a favorite venue of mine. There is a great vibe during the event. Here the street painters often paint until very late at night and if feels like a big painting party.

I loved interpreting this beautiful watercolor done around the late 1800’s. I used more colors in this piece than just about any other piece I think I have done. I loved working on the figure in the landscape as I plan to approach that subject matter for my own work sometime in the near future."  - Lorelle Miller

ViaColori 2010, Elizabethtown,Kentucky, benefiting The Advocacy and Support Center

Via Colori®, 2010 was held September 11-12 in Kentucky.  This unique street painting festival included over 45 artists from the Elizabethtown, Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green areas and some from out-of-state.  The two day event was held in the heart of downtown Elizabethtown, KY for the first time since it started in KY in 2008, it was previously held in Bardstown.  There was a kid’s area, car show, food, art sales, crafts and live entertainment.  Due to weather, the event closed early on Saturday the 11^th, however, on the 12^th not only did the weather show up but so did the community!  There were hundreds of community members that browsed through the chalk drawings, much of which were washed away on Saturday, thus re-creation was held on Sunday.  The featured artist for the event was Cassie Russell from Louisville, KY.  All proceeds from the event benefit the Advocacy & Support Center, a non profit organization in Elizabethtown that provides services to victims of sexual violence.  The event for 2011 will be held in downtown Elizabethtown the second weekend in September as well.  For more information regarding KY Via Colori®, visit www.kyviacolori.com.  To find out more about the Via Colori® organization, visit www.viacolori.com.
