The 2010 Sarasota International Chalk Festival in Sarasota, Florida, was a tough competition this year. Around 250 artists from Florida, California, New York, Oregon, Holland, Mexico, and Italy competed for top prizes. Since the festival took place over Halloween weekend, many artsist decided to do Halloween themed pieces.
And the winners are...
Valentina Sforzini from Italy took First Place. Valentina street painted a beautiful, photo realistic, self-portrait in mostly black and white with colored flowers behind her.
Jay Schwartz from California took Second Place for his fun and clever 'Bona Lisa' street painting, a Halloween twist on the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting 'Mona Lisa'.
Leon Keer from Holland took Third Place for his street painting showing duality of a character in a fairy tale. The girl on the left holds tear gas while the girl on the right has a knife in her hand.
Cecelia Linayao from California took the People's Choice award for her street painting of a face surrounded by monarch butterflies. In Mexican culture and the Day of the Dead, monarchs are thought to carry the spirits of deceased relatives with them when they migrate.
