Hi Everyone!
Blog Now on streetpainting.tv is getting out there and reaching out to street painting (chalk art) festival and event directors to bring the art to our readers. We just had a chat with Jim Barton, director.
- Please share with Blog Now on streetpainting.tv readers about the Uptown Art Expo back-story and recent event.
The Uptown Art Expo is now in our 2nd year at beautiful Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida which is just north of Orlando. Our festival was located previously in Downtown Orlando for 7 years. This year the art & music festival will be held on Feb 16-17th. The free festival includes over 130 art exhibitors from around the country and concerts with Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane and Firefall.
- How did you get interested in bringing the chalk art component to the Uptown Art Expo?
After seeing chalk artists at the Festival of the Masters which is an art festival at Disney World and the chalk art festival in Sarasota, Florida. Visually it was just amazing what these chalk artist create and we had to add this excitement to our festival.
- Is this the first year for chalk? If not, lets look at some of the work.
This will be our third year of our chalk street painting competition. Here are some of the photos from last year’s competition.
- What is the chalk art plan for this year?
The Expo will feature 25 chalk artists in
this year. We have been reaching out to let the Chalk Art Community know about
our festival. Learning more about the different websites that promote chalk art
and requesting that our festival be included in their listings. We have line-up
some amazing new artists for this year’s festival and will be excited to see
them in action.
Also, we have increased our awards for the chalk artists. This year the Expo
will present cash prizes and ribbons for:
(1) $500 – Best of Show
(2) $250 – Awards of Excellence
(2) $200 – Judges Choice
(2) $100 – Awards of Distinction
- Is the community excited? How will you bring the community to socially invest in the chalk art, activities, reaching out, etc.?
Last year we arranged for Chalk Artists Ron Hawkins and Carolyn Schultz to chalk live in front of the Fox 35 Studios. The Station broadcasted them live during the morning show as they created a masterpiece of the stations Good Day morning show logo.
Our festival attendees just love the art work that is created and its heart warming to see all the children try their talents with what I call their refrigerator art in a section nearby.
- Anything that we are missing but would be great to add to the post…
I am just pleased to work with and create an event which provides a venue for such amazing talent.
And we are too! Watch for more posts from Blog Now on streetpainting.tv!
