Waters Winslow.
In the spirit of the historic theme of the Liberty Tree in
which the famous quotation by Thomas Jefferson stated:
“The tree of liberty
must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
We intend to ignore the tyrants completely. We strive to honor and respect our patriots
fully and completely in this artwork which will measure 15 by 30 feet in size.
Upon completion of our piece, we invite those who have are
serving, have served, or those who have loved ones who gave their lives for
this country to chalk their names on the leaves of the Liberty Tree.
When we run out of leaves, people can write those names at
the base of the artwork as well.

Happy New Year from Wendy and I at Blog Now on streetpainting.tv! We are very excited about 2013 in terms of the festivals and events for the street painting community and are sharing what we are seeing. stay tuned on developments for these festivals, events, and sharing of pictures from our experiences over the years.
We are particularly happy to see the return of one of our favorite street painting festivals, albeit in a new form - The festival is now Italian Street Painting Marin, scheduled for June 29th and 30th, 2013, led by Festival Director Sue Carlomagno! As a historical note, it is at the former Youth in Arts Italian Street Painting Festival in which I street painted for the very first time in 2001, and we see where that has led as a street painting artist! Again very happy to see these developments and hope to be sharing more about the Festival with our readers during 2013!
Blog Now on streetpainting.tv has learned of the developing Blumberg Street Art Festival in Blumberg, Germany, scheduled for July 13th and 14th 2013. More on the festival as information comes in...
The Fourth Street Painting Festival in Toulon, France will be on May 25th and 26th, 2013 at the Place D'Armes. Blog Now encourages the public in these locations to stop by and experience the beauty and artistic challenge that is street painting, and of course to pin what you see on our new pinterest site coming on line next week. And of course visit us on Facebook and Twitter.
And a look back at some Festivals in 2012...

Festival Bella Via:
...Street painting at the top of the mountain the challenge of opening a new cultural space, can be said that it was a challenge to overcome. Street painting between the Sun and the clouds, framed by the Sierra Madre, the Cerro de las Mitras, the Cerro del Topo and our flagship Cerro de la Silla. It has been a unique experience, and perhaps even repeatable.
This experience, Festival Bella Via, reaffirms as a cultural gesture, and socially strengthens as a formative activity, and service vocation to the citizen.
During the two days of the realization, we were visited by around 20,000 spectators, who came to live the already traditional ephemeral art of the FBV. To the beating of drums, and our flag (Mexico) hoisted, the soil of the Esplanade from the viewpoint of the bishopric, was covered with art centenary art madonnari...

Happy New Year 2012 from Blog Now on streetpainting.tv!!!
That being said, now on to where Blog Now will be going this year in 2012...
Wendy and I wish to apologize to our readers for being quiet during the last part of 2011. We admit that we have been very involved with a series of street painting art projects with our other company, Art for After Hours which has kept us particulary busy. While we were in the midst of these activities, we gave serious thought as to how we wanted to make Blog Now even better and more engaging than we have had before. And this is what we are thinking...
Starting this week, Blog Now on streetpainting.tv is moving to posting daily with posts, discussion, and thoughts about street painting art, festivals, and observed developments which we see as our way of sharing our appreciation and attention relevant to a blog such as ours that is "..for artists, festivals, and fans..."
Watch very soon for Blog Nows posting on the winners at the Festival Bella Via 2011, but also short posts about the many artists who created work for the festival who are the backbone of such exciting international street painting art competitions such as this.
There will also be similar coverage short posts from events that we have attended in Saarasota, FL as well as events coming up this year in the USA, Mexico, and Europe through local reporters on the scene, and of course our level, journalistic coverage of festival directors and industry professionals in all locations.
Pictured above: We noticed this street painting at the Sarasota Chalk Festival and we recalled the life of Toto de Angelis (Straccetto) who left us in 2011. His experience as a Madonnaro in the true sense is an inspiration to every one of us who all who street paint, chalk, screeve anywhere in the world today.
Have a very Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year from Wendy and I at Blog Now on streetpainting.tv.
Hello to all of our regular readers and a Happy New Year 2011!
2011 is going to be a time of growing in the world of street painting art with newer festivals become part of the street painting landscape along with a new generation of street painting artists making their mark on the scene.
Blog Now on streetpainting.tv is happy to be reaching out to festival directors, street painting artists, and the growing fan base around the world discovering our 400 year old plus art form in the world of new media and technologies in a partnership - not a competition - with the live viewing experience one can only have by attending a street painting festival in your area, wherever that might be.
As streetpainting.tv, Wendy and I have been so glad to be part of street painting to interview many artists over the years in Monterrey, Mexico at Festival Bella Via and making new friends in street painting at the Sarasota Chalk Festival last October. We are working on interview videos with artists from Monterrey and Sarasota and plan to have even more videos up and running on the websites and online sources of streetpainting.tv. We can be seen on our streetpainting.tv branded site/channels on YouTube, Facebook Fan Page,Twitter, Livestream and plan to spread into the fabric of social networking and mobility to bring street painting art to as many as possible in the ways that work best for our growing base of viewers with a library closing in on 300 videos and counting.
We are supportive of all the new festivals arising in Europe, around the rest of the world, and across the USA. Streetpainting.tv will be happy to bring our unique one on one interviewing (thanks to Wendy) to any interested festivals anywhere who will be glad to have us on the media team.
Of course, we have not forgotten the festivals that have brought street painting to popularity before the advent of our current internet age such as the festivals of California, such as the I Madonnari in Santa Barbara, and the Italian Street Painting Festival by Youth in Arts in San Rafael and the many others in the USA such as the Lake Worth Street Painting Festival in Florida, the Via Colori Festivals, and the many others across the country.
And then there is Italy, where the art of the Madonnari began, the home of the Competition at Grazie which brought Madonnari together from 1972 after it was thought the art form may have begun to fade away. The importance and tradition of the Italian festivals and the longtime Madonnari is clear and in our respect, a special thanks to our fellow street painters from Italy who bring material for posts to us during the year.
Thanks to all, especially our readers for being a part of our blog and video channel in 2010 and we hope to bring as much street painting to you as we can in 2011.
Street painter Anthony Cappetto was asked to create a Holiday-themed street painting for the 'Making Merry in Berry Hill' holiday event in Nashville, TN. His 8' x 18' piece took him 2 1/2 days to complete and was the centerpiece of the event! The people of Berry Hill (a section of Nashville) really enjoyed watching him work as well as the finished 3D anamorphic street painting.
Blog Now on Streetpainting.tv wishes all of our readers a very Happy Holiday Season!
It's that time again...the 38th annual Grazie di Curtatone international street painting competition!
Blog Now on streetpainting.tv covered this festival in depth last year, thanks to our Italian correspondent Bruno Fabriani, a street painter who competed in the competition.
For those of you learning about the festival/competition for the first time, here's a little history...
This is the original street painting competition, started in 1972 in Mantua, Italy, to preserve the art form of the madonnari (street painters). The international competition is held each August during the public holiday of the Feast of the Assumption. Traditional religious and Renaissance themed street paintings are created in chalk on the piazza in front of the town's church in a 24 hour period under difficult conditions. The contest starts in the early evening so participants have to work into or through the night, then battle the blazing heat the following day to finish up their street paintings by the deadline at early evening.
The competition has 3 levels (Semplici, Qualificati, Maestri) and you must win the first level in order to compete in the second level, etc. The top award is winning the 3rd level of competition when you are given the title Maestro or Maestra, meaning you are a master street painter in this particular competition. The competition is open to street painters worldwide, but you must register in advance to participate.
The Madonnari will begin their street paintings at 6:30pm on Saturday, August 14th and have until 7:00pm on Sunday, August 15th to finish their pieces. Here's a complete schedule of events for the weekend, in Italian. Stay tuned for coverage from the XXXVIII Grazie di Curtatone International Street Painting Competition!
This is the award that the 1st place winner will receive, along with other prizes and prestige! Good luck to all of the participating Madonnari!

Blog Now on streetpainting.tv is always impressed by ambitious projects for street painting, and we are especially impressed by the mission of CHALK4PEACE. John Aaron, CEO of CHALK4PEACE, shares his thoughts on the growth of the movement of those dedicated to peace through sidewalk chalk in 2010…
John Aaron: "Thank you for asking me about CHALK4PEACE. Sidewalk chalk painting has gained quite a resurgence as both an artistic expression and medium for one's message across the globe. From the talent seen at the I Madonnari festivals to the massive-scale collaborative drawings of entire school districts, sidewalk chalk painting has gained a certain stature it has been struggling for decades. It is chalk painting's time."

Blog Now: Since 2006, CHALK4PEACE has encouraged events in twenty countries and five continents with scores of volunteers with positive results; what have been some of your favorite projects to date and what particularly made them so?
John Aaron: "There are dozens of stories worthy of note here. Moments in each that are as inspirational to the concepts of art and peace as one could imagine. Ones that are to me most moving are those which the organizers and artists break ground in their energy, innovation and effort to share their stories about their goals for peace. Nearly everyone who participates becomes inspired beyond their own belief.
St. George's Cathedral, Cape Town South Africa has done it since 2006. Angela Rackstraw, one of Ode Magazine's 25 most intelligent optimists for 2009 has brought the concept of peace to young artists who literally did not know what the word meant. They have decorated the step's of St. George's Cathedral ever since Archbishop Emeritas Desmond Tutu brought her the project as a way to teach peace.
The Crane Country Day School, Santa Barbara, CA, led by Debbie Williams, Director of Admissions, has joined CHALK4PEACE for the past two years, complete with beautiful videos and photo essays from Paul Westmacott, Teresa Pietsch, and Will Fredericks. The entire school literally ran for the chalk!
Marielle Mariano has almost singlehandedly launched CHALK4PEACE into 150 locations around the Washington, DC Beltway, including the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, The Organization of American States,Busboys and Poets and 150 locations in the Fairfax County Public Schools! She is the East Coast Coordinator for CHALK4PEACE. She is responsible getting more than one hundred thousand people to join with us for CHALK4PEACE since 2006. Maybe that number is low.
To visit the schools that CHALK4PEACE, and I've visited almost one hundred over the last four years (my colleague Marielle has attended more events than I, you see how similarly we envision the concept of peace and how differently ways we express it through art. It continues to be mind-blowing..."

Blog Now: Do you feel that the call to service and volunteerism that is becoming apart of life for many has actually helped accelerate the participation of those who may not have turned to expressing themselves as creative individuals for the CHALK4PEACE?
John Aaron: "I think it's a larger notion: I think people want to volunteer their energy into things that can make the world a better place. CHALK4PEACE creates a global lens through which we can all see how the world envisions peace. Once it's recognized as hopeful and not hokey, there's no end to the positive collective artistic spirit that CHALK4PEACE fosters. As a non-profit, we are a legitimate organization working to encourage peace as a global tapestry that stretches around the world. It's a daunting task."
Blog Now: What has been the reaction from public and private organizations towards the events since 2006 and do you see repeat events from some these organizations?
John Aaron: "95% of the sites continue the event on a annual basis. We do not actually know where ALL of the sites are. We try."

You may have noticed the video player at the upper left portion of the blog showing streetpainting.tv videos of street painting artists and festival directors continuously playing. This is the new streetpainting.tv: online and video on demand live streaming video player thanks to the people at Livestream.com.
The player offers chat, video on demand, where you can choose what videos to watch, and live broadcasting from remote locations (such as street painting art festivals, events, exhibitions, etc.).
